The Trait All Toxic Coworkers Have

Here are 7 types of toxic coworkers you might encounter:

1. Complainers

Always complaining.

  • The boss is an ass.

  • The work is pointless.

  • The customers are idiots.

They infect everyone around them with negative energy.

Complainers turn challenging or boring tasks into distressing tasks.

2. Naysayers

As a conflict avoidant person, I need daily reminders: don't be too agreeable.

We all need to express our opinions, even if they're spiky.

But some people seem to find joy in disagreement.

  • They shut down ideas.

  • The constantly bring up problems.

  • They make you feel stupid for trying.

3. Kiss Uppers / Kick Downers

These ambitious a-holes seem to have 2 faces.

  • Looking up at their supervisors, they're helpful and smiley.

  • Sideways or down, they're looking for easy ways to sabotage others.

4. Gossip Kings / Queens

They love spreading rumors that bring others down.

Painting people in a negative light is their favorite hobby.

5. Credit Thieves

This person uses clever ways to make it seem like they did more than they did.

They'll downplay your role in making them look good.

6. Super-Talkers

The only way to get a word in with a super-talker is to interrupt them.

And they will be quick to say, "Please let me finish," or "Just a second, this is important."

7. Emotional Crumblers

They mean well, but they're riddled with anxiety.

They make it difficult for you to focus on your work because you're stuck trying to make them feel better.

All of these toxic types have 1 thing in common:

Fragile Ego.

They're all:

  • Terrified to fail.

  • Pretty sure they WILL fail.

  • Happy to pull you into that inner conflict.

It's an ego vortex.

  • Ego brings drama.

  • You will get sucked in.

  • And then you're their victim.

There's really only 1 way to prevent it:

  • Identify them.

  • Distance from them.

  • Be super nice in the process.

No matter what, you'll suffer from having them around you.

The best you can do is minimize your contact with them.

  • Don't fight them.

  • Don't negotiate with them.

Give them whatever is easy to give, and then back away.

No reason to get sucked into any daytime dramas.

May your energy be free to flow productively,
